"Black Out"

Too much tequila &
      a false hint of bench
or chair
      or swing to catch me--
and when reality breaks,
                             I fall
s p i nn i n g   backwards into
             nothing,
arms pinwheel & catch     air
and my consciousness
    careens, jostled like a
         rolle        ster
                 rcoa
                 until the final crash.
But through the drunken haze,
I feel the beginnings of a
     splitting      headache.

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) is trashy slasher fun. Pretty much every scene and kill in the movie became staples in the slasher genre. It is every bit as entertaining as the first in the series.

This poem was inspired not so much by the machete to the face for the hot wheelchair guy. It was an amusing and memorable kill (probably the most memorable kill in Friday the 13th Part 2), but the piece was based on what happens next. And I'm sure everyone remembers.

Poor guy. He gets a machete through his face, and then, adding insult to injury, his corpse bounces and jostles down a long staircase with the murder weapon still embedded in his skull. Leave it to me to compare the whole scenario to blacking out and awakening hungover. Go figure.
